Stalls of Educational Material on Health and AIDS Awareness with Exhibitions at Railway Stations

Young Inspirers put up stalls and exhibitions at the Railway Stations. On these stalls they display educational material (pamphlets, booklets, handbills, stickers, posters etc.) on various health issues, STIs/HIV/AIDS. Young Inspirers put up exhibitions with the help of dolls, buntings, stickers, danglers, posters, banners, puppets and tin boards etc. Passengers who are waiting for their trains or people who have come to receive/see off someone have sufficient time so they come and have a look at the exhibits and collect the educational material. Passengers read the educational material while they are traveling. Hence, the information reaches many people and in different regions. While giving the educational material we request the people to impart the information to those who are uneducated.

Mobile Exhibition in Rail Coaches
Besides a static exhibition as mentioned above, Young Inspirers also move around the station with posters and banners. Passengers in the trains and passers by are able to go through these; meanwhile Young Inspirers distribute handbills on health issues in the trains.

Inspiring YATRA
Young Inspirers supported by the SECRT unit of FPA India, Lucknow Branch organized Inspiring Yatra 1996 (by train). This Yatra started on the World Health Day (7th April) and ended on Inspirers Day (17th April). The idea of this Yatra was conceived by Young Inspirer Manish Kumar. Eight Young Inspirers participated in the Yatra. They were guided by Nandini Johri, Counselor, SECRT - FPA India, Lucknow Branch. The route undertaken was: Lucknow – Gorakhpur - Varanasi - Pratapgarh - Lucknow. Before the commencement of Yatra, permission was taken from the Railway Board, New Delhi. Educational material was distributed in the running trains as well as in the trains at the platforms. Young Inspirers held discussions with the passengers. Those who were interested in having more information about a particular health problem or HIV/AIDS were requested to visit the mobile library set up in one of the compartments of the train. Many people made use of this library. A kit of educational material was given to the Station Masters en route.
